Arts So Far
I have been drawing for many years now but I found that I have never at all made some way to properly document my development, like how you'd document the life of a historical painter: their phases, their stylistic shift, their medium, and so on. Not even a little portfolio of some works like artists usually do.
Until recently, at least. I have left some sort of anthology, a semi-portfolio if you can call it that. Rather underwhelming, probably unprofessional, but that's amateurs for you. Though again, when it comes to arts, is there really a thing such as professional where you don't fall into the lines of modern corporatism with generic use of minimalism and/or brutalism?
This is a reason I decided that I can't take on arts as a professional profession, as in a full-time day job, because there is no objective parameter to define what is exactly good without involving any personal bias and preference.
I realized this in high school after pathetically losing a sticker design contest to a minimalist seemingly soulless design. No hate to the artist but the judges, very much. The creative industry is cut throat. Taste is selective. Trends come and go. I cannot conform to trends without compromising the soul in my works.
Arts is personal for me, as much as I hate to admit it. I may eventually lose myself if I ever decide that I have to catch up with all sorts of internet trend to please the internet algorithm, but I know it's always been a strong emotional outlet for me and it's one of the few things that have stuck with me since childhood.
That's probably also why documenting it might be essential. I need a way to record my development so far. I regret that I have never taken much consideration into doing so because I thought it was not worth the low quality my past works posess but I have been told that an organized creative is the most dangerous person you can find, or something along the lines of it in a less extreme manner. I forgot.
How much truth that holds, I don't know, but I'd like to see for myself.
You can compile your stuff and see for yourself the good, the bad, the ugly, everything you've ever done, now recorded in a space and time that once was. You can feel all sorts of things and think about why and how your approach was the way it was back then.
Some may have a more scientific approach to the importance of documentation but thats what I have to say for now. I just want a way to make known what I have made so far.
